Xbox Disc-to-Digital Feature: How Does It Work?

Microsoft's Disc-to-Digital feature allows Xbox players to convert physical disc ownership into digital entitlements. This bridges the gap between physical media collections and modern ecosystem features, granting physical disc owners access to digital conveniences - such as disc-free local play, cloud streaming, and PC cross-buy - without needing to repurchase their games digitally.

Standard Single-Disc Method:

1. Power On & Sign In: Turn on your console and log into the Microsoft account where you want to attach your digital entitlement.
2. Insert the Disc: Place a supported Xbox One or Xbox Series X game disc into the optical drive.
3. Wait for the pop-up: A pop-up menu will appear after the disc is inserted in the right way.
4. Claim Digital License: Select Claim digital license when the system prompt appears.
5. Confirm: In the next screen choose the ‘CLAIM’ option.
6. Confirmation: Once verified, a notification confirms the Digital License is linked to your Xbox profile. You will also see an icon indicating that your game now has a Digital License.

Easy does it

Bulk Claiming (Fast Batch Method for Large Collections):

1. Go to Settings > Devices & connections > Disc.
2. Uncheck Play disc automatically.
3. Insert your first disc, highlight its tile on the Home screen, and press the Menu button (☰).
4. Select Get digital license > Claim.
5. Eject the disc, insert the next one, and repeat until all discs are processed.
6. Re-enable Play disc automatically in Settings when finished.
