Fallout 76 "The Slasher" Update Drops Sept 15 With Gen 9 Console Upgrade

Bethesda has officially announced "The Slasher", a unique Fall update for Fallout 76 launching on September 15, 2026. The multi-week event introduces a terrifying new story arc alongside highly anticipated technical upgrades for current-gen console players.

"The Slasher" Event & Story Arc

A murderous fanatic has taken up the mantle of the infamous Pint-Sized Slasher, bringing a wave of terror to Appalachia. Throughout the Fall, players will hunt for clues, excavate unmarked graves, and clear out Slasher fanatics taking over the map. Defeating the "Pint-Sized" imposter rewards players with a unique Power Armor set and the new "Super Slasher" weapon.

Gen 9 Performance & Visual Upgrades

For console players on Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 (as well as optimizations for older consoles), September 15 marks the official arrival of the Gen 9 upgrade. The patch promises:

• Higher frame rates and improved overall performance.
• Enhanced visual fidelity and overall platform stability.
• Better long-term optimization capabilities for future console updates.

Legacy Seasons & Unique Weapon Crafting

Alongside performance boosts, Bethesda is introducing two major quality-of-life additions:

• Unique Weapon Crafting: Players can now swap and customize Legendary mods on over 80+ uniquely named weapons found throughout the Wasteland.
• Legacy Seasons: Starting with the upcoming "Beware of the Blood Moon" season, players can progress through both the current season and a past season they previously missed.
